Hatch Nuclear Power Plant in Georgia

Edwin I. Hatch Nuclear Power Plant is an operating nuclear power plant located in Georgia, United States of America. The construction of the Hatch nuclear power plant began in 1963, and was completed in 1975, when the first power unit of the station was launched. In total, two reactors were installed at the station. Both refer to boiling water reactors. The capacity of the first reactor is 898 MW, the second 921 MW. The total capacity of the Hatch nuclear power plant is 1,819 MW. The service life of the reactors after the extension in 2002 became limited to 2,034 and 2,038 years for the first and second reactors, respectively.

Like some other US nuclear power plants (Farley, McGwire, Emmett Jinn, Duane Arnold, Shiron Harris and others), Hutch is named after the head of the local energy company Edwin Hatch.

On the territory of the Hatch nuclear power plant there is also a storage of spent nuclear fuel in the form of concrete drums.

Accidents at Hatch Nuclear Power Plant

On December 3, 1986, at the second power unit of the Hatch nuclear power plant, due to erratic valve operation, a leakage of radioactive water from the pool occurred. A total of 53 tons of water flowed out, of which almost half came from the territory of the Hatch nuclear power plant. As a result, it was necessary to remove the topsoil of the earth closest to the station and to process it as radioactive waste, no one was hurt and no accutane online usa was needed.

On March 7, 2008, an unscheduled shutdown of the reactor of the second power unit occurred at the Hatch nuclear power plant. The reason was the software update on one of the computers of the nuclear power plant, which erased previous data on the reactor. This led to the activation of emergency protection, because of the apparent loss of coolant in the reactor.
